Hermann Candrian Map Maker

We know that Hermann (as spelt in Switzerland) or Herman Candrian (Adolph Candrian's younger brother) created early auto maps of Seattle, San Francisco, San Mateo County, Berkeley, Los Angeles and Nevada. During the mid 1970's when a building in San Francisco was being torn down, one of these maps was found by a commercial realtor in-between the walls.  He knew my husband and thought that this "Candrian" was surely related to him.  At the time, since his Candrian grandparents had divorced while his father was young and then his father passed away right before he was given this map, no one seemed to know who H. A. Candrian was.

Below is a link to one of the maps that H. A. Candrian created:

In 1880, Herman A. Candrian also created a patent for a barber chair.

  1. Hi, I'm hoping you can help us with information about a map made by H.A. Candrian of San Francisco dated 1922. It is a very large map, something maybe that was in a school? Very beautiful map. It also has all of the street names, names of banks and businesses, businesses that were for sale at the time. We have been carrying it around for years. Any info you have would be appreciated. Thanks! Bill and Carol Hatton ~
